No Greater Faith in All Israel

SCRIPTURE

Matthew 8: 5-13

A centurion is a high Roman officer.  Romans were gentiles, non-Jews; they believed and worshipped many gods such as Zeus, Neptune, Jupiter, etc.

This story is about a centurion in Capernaum who witnessed many of Jesus's miracles and teachings. He had a son who he fathered through his slave, but nevertheless loved him just as much as son of his wife.

This boy, the half son, became very ill even paralyzed and at point of death.  Because he was desperate, he came to Jesus asking for help.

Jesus wanted the centurion to take him to the boy, but the centurion said he was unworthy.

Because of his unworthiness he said to Jesus to just say the word from afar.  He was ashamed for Jesus to come to his house full of pagan idols.

When Jesus heard this, he turned  around to his disciples there in the room, "Truly, I tell you, I have not found anyone in all Israel with

so much faith!" Jesus turned back to the centurion and said, "Go and it will be done for you as you believed it would."  At this very moment the boy was healed!

LESSON

Faith in Jesus!  Humility! The centurian had both.  Christ's authority alone healed the boy. Christ alone, who is our maker and redeemer, saves us, but we must come to Him with humility.💕
