SCRIPTURE
Matthew 8:1-4 New Testament
Leprosy was a disease in ancient times and still is today, but now it is cured by an antibiotic. But in Jesus's time people who had it were condemned. Leprosy manifests itself with horrible lesions and sores on the body. No other disease was more terrible and limited a person then. There were many laws about people with this disease. Two of which were staying so many cubits from that person, and definitely not touching them for fear of contacting it yourself. Lepers were banished from society as if they were dead. There has never been any disease which separated a person in society than leprosy.
In this story, a leper approached Jesus with confidence. He had no doubt Jesus could heal him. Why? I don't know. Perhaps the leper heard gossip or witnessed a healing Jesus performed. The leper came with humility, too. He didn't demand but politely said, "If you will, you can cleanse me." The leper was confident and worshipped Him because it says he knew he was in God's presence. What do you suppose Jesus did? He touched him and healed him! Jesus was compassionate. Then told the man to go to the priest who would perform some other things for him.
LESSON
Faith and compassion! The leper had total faith in Jesus's divine ability. Jesus had great compassion. Go and be likewise.💕
