SCRIPTURE
Mark 6 New Testament
John the Baptist got in BIG trouble with King Herod Antipas. Herod did not want to kill John, but feared his popularity would lead his followers to a rebellion so he put him in prison. But John got in deeper trouble yet when he publicly insulted Herod's wife, Herodias, for her marriage. So Herodias wanted to take revenge on this public humiliation and have John killed. She demanded her daughter, Salome, to perform a seducative dance at a big banquet Herod attended. If the dance pleased the king, he was forced to grant any request she asked him to do. This was a devious plan between Salome and her mother. Herod really loved the dance so the request was to have John beheaded and placed on a silver platter and brought into the banquet hall. And that's what happened!
LESSON
This is said to be a foreshadowing of the torture, suffering, and martyrdom of Jesus's followers. Despite this, we must believe and trust God and speak out honestly and truthfully, for He is still in control. God used John to prepare the way for Jesus, so that His will be done and it will always be done. 💕
