A Secret Believer

SCRIPTURE

John 3: 1-21 New Testament

Jewish religious leaders first century AD included Pharisees and Sadesees who belonged to a ruling assembly like a court called the Sanhedrin.  They studied and knew Jewish law.

One such Pharisee of the highest rank was Nicodemus. He was very curious about Jesus.  Perhaps he saw some miracles, but certainly knew of the gossip and claims about him. Because Nicodemus didn't want to get in trouble, he requested a personal visit with him at night.

They met secretly on a rooftop and became respectful friends. In Nicodemus's heart I think he had few doubts that Jesus was the long awaited Messiah and became a secret believer.  One profound teaching from Jesus that night to Nicodemus was John 3:16  That passage will be discussed briefly here. "For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son that whosoever believed in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life."

Unconditional love is through God for us.  God, the Father sent us his Son to earth so we could see how Jesus was--love.  I cannot fathom a father sacrificing his only offspring to suffer and die upon a cross.  Our only obligation, though, is to believe, have faith in him.  Some other factors like repentance and living a godly life, meaning actions of love for others, are critical parts of our faith, too.  Nicodemus was trying to figure it out by searching and seeking to understand who Jesus was.

LESSON

Believe in Him and live your life so others see Jesus in you.💕
