SCRIPTURE
Hosea Old Testamnet
Hosea was a prophet in the book, Hosea. It was written as a metaphor. The characters are symbolic:
Hosea represents God.
Gomer represents Israel.
Marriage represents God's covenant with Israel.
God spoke to his people through the prophets This story is about redemption.
God spoke to Hosea to marry a prostitute, Gomer. He obeyed , married her and had children. He loved her very, very much, a great love like God's love. Hosea was faithful to her, but not so with Gomer. She continued to run away and back to her former lovers. In the case of Israel, it was idol worship. Each time of unfaithfulness, God would punish them with invading pagan armies and taken them back to foreign lands like Assyria and Babylonia. This was prophesized and happened.
But nevertheless, God would always redeem them, wanted them back becuase of His great love for them. Always. This happened five times throughout the book In the end there is hope that Israel would flourish.
LESSON
Redemption from God means that we are ALL God's chosen now, and are atoned for our sins by Christ's great love for his life, suffering, and death. He paid for our sins so that we could have eternity with Him.
Fear not, for I have redeemed you. Iv'e called you by name. You are mine. Isaiah 43; 1
